Joomla 1.5 has many similarity’s to 1.13 so i made fairly quick progress in setting the shell of the portal. Too begin with i downloaded and installed an excellent skin, 68portal by Axel Wehner. This was one of the finalist in the Joomla 1.5 template competition. Lot of nice designs to choose from, green seemed a good color for real estate.

The first thing your greeted with in the admin screen is a new more streamlined Global confoguration .

The template manager has been moved to the Extensions option. Edit html and CSS options are here also. Depending on the template, a host of other modification can also be made by clicking parameters option.

Next i made some initial SEO modification’s. Here is an area that Joomla has not done so well in past versions. Joomla 1.5 seeks to make some improvements in this area.

There is now a setting to select to use search friendly URL’s and mod rewrite.Located in teh Global configuration area. It cleaned up the url a bit, but a SEF component such as 404SEF would do a much better job. This an area that still needs more work.

In addition each article now has a built in option to enter Meta data directly.
